Human Subjects

The University of South Carolina Institutional Review Board (IRB) is responsible for the review and oversight of all research involving human subjects conducted at USC and elsewhere by faculty, students, staff or other representatives of USC. The USC IRB seeks to create a collaborative relationship with the research community to assure that research involving human subjects is conducted in accordance with regulatory and legal requirements as well as the ethical principles of Respect for Persons, Beneficence and Justice. Members of the USC IRB are chosen from within the University and the outside community to represent a variety of scientific and non-scientific disciplines. Before a research project involving human subjects is initiated, it must first be reviewed and approved by the IRB.
